The Effects of Celebrity Role Models on Kids and Teens

In “the effects of celebrity role models on kids and teens” by Eliza Martinez she discusses the positive and negative effects that celebrities can have on a teenagers life. She discusses how many teenagers will look up to celebrities as role models and therefore, try to mirror them. For instance, she mentions that if a celebrity has angelic traits such as giving to charities than this can have an amazing effect on an adolescent ,who role models them. However, there are also many celebrities who have traits that are not so angelic. For instance, if a teenager were to idolize someone like Lindsay Lohan its obvious that this obsession with the celebrity might lead to negative traits. media plays a big role in this whole celebrity obsession. It’s almost impossible to go on to the internet now in days and not have something pop up about the most talked about celebrity of the week. Children tend to spend a lot of time watching television or on the internet. These are good places for them to get swallowed up in the world of celebrity media. I understand the effects that celebrities and media have on today’s society and how hard it is to escape. I myself was once a victim of celebrity obsession. Lucky I’ve  never felt the need to resemble my favorite celebrities. However, many teens today are starstruck crazed fans and I only hope that they realize that being a fan is different than idolizing a celebrity.

What makes a one boy band different from another?

history:

boy band (or boyband) is loosely defined as a vocal group consisting of young male singers, usually in their teenage years or in their twenties at the time of formation. Being vocal groups, most boy band members do not play musical instruments, either in recording sessions or on stage, making the term something of a misnomer. However, exceptions do exist. Most boy bands dance as well as sing, usually giving highly choreographed performances.

Some such bands form on their own. They can evolve out of church choral or gospel music groups, but are often created by talent managers or record producers who hold auditions. Due to this and their general commercial orientation towards a female audience of preteensteenyboppers, or teens, the term may be used with negative connotations in music journalism. Boy bands are similar in concept to their counterparts, girl groups.

Reputation Transformation

If someone was asked to describe me ,I’m not really sure what type of person they would say I am however, it would bother me if I was labeled in a negative way because of a stupid action I performed. In ” The Future of Reputation” Solove discusses reputation and the internet. He mentioned the “dog poop girl”and the “star wars kid”. Both of these are young individuals who behaved with actions that seem weird or out of the norm ,and thanks to the internet they’re both made infamously popular on the world wide net. Yes, these two individuals might have done rude or silly actions but at what cost should their reputations have to pay for it? Due to the internet their lives will never be the same. While the internet can harm one’s reputation it might also help it. For example Justin Bieber and the duet known as Karmen became famous because of the internet. However, this is definitely not the case for all. Rebecca Black is a great example of how the internet can harm someones reputation.Black posted a song on you tube called “Friday” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfVsfOSbJY0 which now has around 60 million views.Although, now her song might be a catchy tune ,that was not the case at first. She was a young teenager when she posted this video and ended up being harassed and bullied through the internet. She will always be known for “Friday” her infamous hit single and her reputation is forever changed. This is exactly what solove is referring to when he mentions the internet and reputation. He even mentioned that most people who blog and connect on the internet are teenagers and something they post as a teenager might effect them for the rest of their lives. It’s no secret that the internet is an amazing invention however, Solove believes it can harm someones reputation and label them as something negative for the rest of there lives and, the above examples only seem to confirm his thinking.star wars

Israel blogs

israel_14First of all I want to start off by saying that I really enjoyed this assignment. I have spent so much time this semester writing my own essays, that I never even bothered to see what anyone else had to write about. I spent my past year studying abroad in Israel and truly fell in love with the country ,for various reasons. I really like   Jen Maidenbergs blog she writes about all her experiences since moving to Israel. One of the things she wrote that I really enjoyed on her blog was “The small ways Israel sweetens me.” Maidenberg discusses how she never tasted such amazing cherry tomatoes like the ones they have in Israel. At first I found it quite interesting that out of all the amazing things there are in Israel she chose to discuss cherry tomatoes. That’s when it hit me,that the fact that she blogged about something that is so ordinary is the reason why I loved her blog! Andrew Sullivan mentions that good writers write out loud and this is definitely the case with Maidenberg. I can tell that she wasn’t forced to write about cherry tomatoes but chose to because she loves them. When I red her blog I felt like she was talking to me. The writing and content on this blog is really good however, there is no design to the blog  ,but I think that’s just because the blogging website doesn’t focus on that. Overall, I loved her blog and I really like how she said that its all the small things that can transform us into how we experience something.I was really able to relate to her.  I remember my first time eating a cherry tomato in Israel and asking my friend if she ever tasted such an amazing tomato. Its just funny to see that someone feels the same way as me. Just like cherry tomatoes her blog was small and sweet!

When I read  “Claiming the homes I don’t fit into” from daughter of another paths blog I was amazed! She discusses how she moved to Israel and converted to Judaism. Ever since I spent my last year in Israel I loved it and refer to it as my home. Reading Daughter of another paths blog I know she feels the same way that I do. She didn’t use any big fancy words in her blog but spoke from her heart. Last year was the first year I have ever been to Israel and it took me a while to call it my home since, I lived in America for the past 18 years. Reading about her experience was amazing I cant believe that she fell so in love with Israel and Judaism that she decided to convert. I felt like I was reading my own diary when she mentioned that the place she grew up living is not where her home is but Israel is her home. Although, I didn’t have as big as a transformation as she did I did find my home and where I belong. I really enjoyed her writing and content because it captured my attention and really got me thinking. Her love for Israel definitely came across in her writing ,but the way her blog was decorated with Jewish stars was definitely the icing on the cake! I enjoyed her writing so much that I decided to read everything on her blog. By reading everything she wrote on her blog I really felt like I got to know a lot about her and her love for Israel.

I really enjoyed reading both these blogs. It was interesting to read what other people had to say about something that is so near and dear to my heart. Even though, I have never met any of these bloggers I feel as though I already know them. I have never realized how enjoyable blogging can be until this assignment!

The internet from A-Z

Letras-ABC

Astronaut- The internet allows someone to become an astronaut. Comparable to outer space the creations of the internet enabled people to leave the old world that there used to, and enter a new one. The internet is similar to space in that things that seemed so far away are now right in front of us.  Just like an astronaut of space sees stars and planets up close, astronauts of the internet can see things in ways we never saw them before. An astronaut doesn’t have gravity pushing him down or preventing him from anything. The same is true with the astronauts of the internet it allows for them to express those things they would otherwise not. In the old world people would silence their feelings, due to their fear of being pushed down. Thanks to the new world of the internet people can live a life not being afraid to express their thoughts.

New born – When a new born comes into this world everything is so new and exciting for them.  From their first steps to their first food, everything just seems so amazing to them. The same is true with the internet. The internet gives us a second chance at being a new born. Logging into Facebook for the first time is similar to taking your first steps. The first time someone does something new on the internet it’s going to be just as exciting as everything is to a newborn.

Canvases- The internet is the world’s canvas and isn’t meant to be blank but, filled with different colors of ideas. Things like twitter and blogs allow for people to say whatever they want or feel. The purpose of a canvas is that it’s meant to be painted on regardless of the color. The internet enables people to state their opinion no matter how different it is from others. The canvas of society is intended to be a burst of different colors because it’s the difference that truly turns a canvas into a masterpiece.

Short cuts- In life everyone is looking for a shortcut and that is exactly what you get with the internet. Instead of using multiple books or encyclopedias to research something you can do it with just one click of a button. The internet allows for people to have access to an immense amount of information without having to do any work. Not only does it make life easier but, it enables society to get things done much faster.

What’s good about the internet and technology is that it allows me to get things done really fast. If it wasn’t for the internet it would take me much longer to do research or find out the definition of a word. The internet makes tasks that I do in my daily life much easier. For instance, every morning I want to know what the weather report is but, I’m too lazy to go outside and check. That being said, I can just open an app on my phone, and like magic the weather report appears. I learnt many new skills because of the internet, some which include how to upload videos, research information and create a blog. There are many important issues in society that I didn’t quite understand. Instead, of having to go the library to do arduous research, I am now able to research these things in a much faster and easier way. Thanks to the internet annoying or hard tasks can turn out to be very simple ones.

The technological advancement that is most useful to me is my cellphone. My cellphone is more than just a phone but, also a computer, camera, calculator and television in one. I have many applications on my phone that I use for entertainment. I’m able to search the web, watch YouTube videos, use Facebook, Instagram and play subway surfers all from this small invention. One of my favorite things about my cellphone is that it has WhatsApp and allows me to communicate with my friends from different states and countries. I think its extraordinary how technology is advancing, and I can’t wait to see what invention comes next.
